The last time Van Halen released a studio album with David Lee Roth, it would have seemed awfully strange, to say the least, for a major band to promote its new music by debuting tracks on a TV drama. But times have changed, and as part of the rollout plan for their new album ‘A Different Kind of Truth,’ VH is including clips from two new songs in this week’s episode of ‘CSI,‘ which airs tonight (Jan. 25) on CBS.

The name of ‘Blood and Fire,’ a newly-previewed song from Van Halen‘s ‘A Different Kind of Truth’ album, probably won’t ring familiar to longtime fans of the band. But Alex Van Halen’s beat and Eddie Van Halen’s noodling on the track may take some knowledgeable fans back to the mid-’80s. That’s because the new song — previewed in the video below — is based on an instrumental called ‘Ripley’ from ‘The Wild Life’ movie.

Last November Sammy Hagar told Rolling Stone Magazine that the new Van Halen album is basically an Old Van Halen album filled with recycled material. Hagar ranted that Eddie Van Halen can't write songs, he just writes parts. At the time it sounded like a bitter lead singer still hurt by his and Michael Anthony's ouster. But with the release of Van Halen's new single "Tattoo", diehard fans are saying it sounds eeriely close to an unreleased song from 1977 called "Down in Flames", making it appear as if Hagar was telling the truth.

The timing couldn't be better for a Van Halen Show in Buffalo. A half-minute clip of the new Van Halen single ‘Tattoo‘ has premiered on Amazon UK‘s website. The full song is expected to be released next Tuesday, Jan. 10 as the next major step in the massive promotional campaign that has unfolded on the band’s behalf in the last few days, including a concert stop March 9 at the First Niagara Center in Buffalo. Tickets go on sale one week from today at 10 am at Livenation.com.
