Few rockers have lived a life as deserving of a biopic as Queen's Freddie Mercury. Apparently, people in Hollywood agree, because last week, on October 10, guitarist Brian May spilled the news that such a film is in the works.

Late Queen frontman Freddie Mercury is as popular as ever, and the vocalist is getting yet another salute this year. Along with the upcoming documentary release, The Great Pretender, which chronicles his life and times, there’s also a new book in the works titled The Great Pretender: A Life in Pictures.

Queen are back in the saddle. The band, which first dealt with the loss of Freddie Mercury first by teaming with Paul Rodgers, returned to the stage Saturday (June 30) in Kiev as part of the ANTIAIDS benefit with Adam Lambert in the fold.

Film producer Graham King says he’s still planning on filming a biopic about Queen frontman Freddie Mercury in 2012, and Sacha Baron Cohen is still planning on playing the lead role. It’d be a rare serious role for Cohen, best known for starring in films like ‘Borat (2006)’ and ‘Bruno (2009).’

Queen‘s Brian May and Roger Taylor have revealed they’re in possession of recordings of late vocalist Freddie Mercury singing with Michael Jackson. British newspaper The Sun reports that the public may finally get a chance to hear the two men harmonize.

To commemorate what would have been Queen singer Freddie Mercury’s 65th birthday this weekend, Google published a Mercury-ized doodle on their homepage, along with an accompanying animated video. The clip imagines the late star (who passed away in 1991 due to AIDS complications), cavorting through a heavenscape packed with 8-bit objects and some of his most iconic outfits.
