I’m sure you’ve seen the video of the 3-year-old Texas Rangers fan crying because he didn’t get the foul ball. And I’m sure you’ve heard all the people who are in an uproar because of it. Not me. I say let that boy cry.

The Yankees broadcaster said that the fans that caught it were “rubbing it in his face” because they were excited and taking pictures with the ball. Well, the clip I saw on the Today Show showed nothing of the sort. In fact, they didn’t even seem as if they knew the boy was there.

But even if they did know, are they just supposed to hand it to him because he’s crying? What does that teach the boy? If you kick and scream loudly you’ll eventually get want you want? Good life lesson.

I have to be honest, I think about this a lot when I go to hockey games. It’s one of my dreams to catch a puck that goes out of play. And at every game, I sit and look around me, wondering if I do get so lucky, if I’m just going to have to give it to some puppy-eyed kid with a quivering bottom lip. Just because I’m old doesn’t mean that I don’t want it.

But the Rangers brat fan got his at the end. One of the players tossed him a ball when the game was over. And everyone was happy. Except for the couple that caught the first ball. They will forever be (unfairly) chastised.
