Perhaps you remember the groundbreaking video for Radiohead‘s ‘House of Cards,’ the James Frost-directed clip that used remote optical technology instead of actual video cameras to create a matrix image of singer Thom Yorke? Frost doesn’t take such a high-tech route on the new video for Dave Matthews Band‘s ‘Mercy,’ but it’s still visually compelling, featuring a patchwork collage of uplifti
Oasis were at the height of their fame — and pretty much the biggest rock ‘n’ roll band in the world — by the time they hit London’s famed Abbey Road Studios in 1996 to begin working on ‘Be Here Now,’ the much-anticipated follow-up to their breakthrough release, ‘(What’s the Story) Morning Glory?’
Green Day have issued a brand-new official band photo (via Twitter) ahead of their forthcoming three-album blitz known as ’¡Uno!,’ ‘¡Dos!,’ and ‘¡Tre!’ trilogy — and it’s a pretty sweet shot. Frontman Billie Joe Armstrong and the boys mug for the cameras with their typical goofy faces in the picture, which we assume is a punk-rock band version of a high school yearbook shot.
Green Day have released a live video for the tune ‘Let Yourself Go’ that was recorded on Nov. 17 of last year at a venue called the Red 7 in Austin, Texas. It’s a track off the band’s upcoming album, ‘¡Uno!,’ which hits stores on Sept. 25 via Reprise and is the first release from a trilogy that includes ‘¡Dos!’ (out Nov. 13) and ‘¡Tres!’ (due Jan. 15).
There’s no doubt about it, No Doubt are back in a big way. On Thursday night — and less than a week after making their first performance on live TV in too long to remember — the band busted on to the stage of ‘Late Night With Jimmy Fallon’ and pulled out ‘Settle Down,’ the first single from ‘Push and Pull.’
Last week, Green Day released ‘Oh Love,’ the first single off their forthcoming ‘Uno!’ album, and the song has already made a major impact at radio. In fact, ‘Oh Love’ becomes just the third song in the history of the Billboard Rock Songs chart to debut at No. 1 on the tally, racking up 13 million first-week audience impressions from 145 reporting stations in the process.
Smashing Pumpkins’ music is all over the map — they touch on everything from psych rock and electronica to folk-tinged indie pop, sometimes — but frontman Billy Corgan isn’t shy to say that head-banging metal has always been a major influence. But while he personally is very vocal about the hard-hitting tunes he’s into, he feels that metal as a whole doesn’t get the respect that it deserves in the alternative community.
Less than a month after Kings of Leon frontman Caleb Followill’s wife, model Lily Aldridge, gave birth to the couple’s first child, Aldridge has tweeted the first public photo of their precious Dixie Pearl. The Twitter picture of their daughter, who was born on June 21 in Nashville, displays her tiny feet wearing bunny-themed booties accompanied by a note that read “Sweet feet” with a smiley face at the end.
Whether you love the songs or hate the songs — or love one and find the other somewhat annoying, as some of us do — Gotye‘s ‘Somebody That I Used to Know’ and teen star Carly Rae Jepsen‘s ‘Call Me Maybe’ are two of the biggest, most ubiquitous and most unavoidable hits of 2012. So, what happens when two such massively successful songs become one?
When you get to be as big as No Doubt, everything is a huge deal — rehearsing, recording, touring, even just doing press interviews — but few things are as mammoth of a production as a band like No Doubt making a video. Don’t believe us? Check out the behind-the-scenes webisode that was recently filmed as they hit a Hollywood-sized studio to shoot their new "Settle Down" video.
