You Might Have To Pay For Garbage Removal In Niagara Falls Next Year

If you live in the city of Niagara Falls, you could start paying for your garbage removal next year.

According to WGRZ, a garbage fee is included in Niagara Falls Mayor Paul Dyster's proposed budget for 2020.

"That is why we considered a user fee to pay for our solid waste disposal program" Dyster said "Removing the cost of that program from the general fund would eliminate a $4.1 million expense and help close our gap."

The city of Niagara Falls must close a $4 million deficit.

If you're wondering how much it would cost -- roughly $218 a year, which works out to $4.20 a week you would need to pay to have your garbage removed.

Not everyone is on board with this proposed plan for the 2020 budget, among them is Niagara Falls City Councilman Chris Voccio.

"I oppose this user fee, I think what the user fee does, its a cop out and avoids making the painful decisions about restructuring the cost of government" said Voccio.

Dyster also wants to eliminate 18 city jobs.

The proposed budget will go before the City Council and a final vote will happen in December.
