The Ontario Power Generation Winter Festival of Lights, despite all the activities canceled due to the pandemic, is slated for its annual debut next month.

Yearly more than a million world travelers visit the colorful festival. This year, while International travelers may be limited visitors from around Canada, will welcome the celebration as a sign of normalcy. With the U.S./Canadian border closed for the time being, it's unsure whether Ameican visitors will be able to visit the Festival in-person.  The Light show, because of it's magnitude can easily be viewed from the U.S. side of the border.

The festival which originally began on the American side in 1981 was initiated 37 years ago in Niagara Falls Ontario and is Canada’s largest illumination festival with millions of sparkling lights and numerous displays.

Past years have included firework shows, however, the Niagara Falls fireworks shows were put on hold this year. It is not yet clear if they will be included in this year's winter festival.

The festival runs from Nov. 14 to Jan. 10 with the lights illuminated from dusk (5 p.m.) to midnight.  More about the festival's history, directions to the event, as well as places to stay and dine while visiting along with pictures can be found on the Winter Festival of Lights website.

There is no admission fee, however, a $5 to $10 donation will be accepted with the proceeds used to enhance the lights and displays.
