While it recently emerged that Rage Against the Machine have an unlikely fan in Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan, Rage guitarist Tom Morello has been pretty clear that the feeling is not mutual. In a new interview with Rolling Stone, Morello dubs Ryan a "jackass" when discussing the politician's Rage fandom and explains that he "missed" a lot of the meaning behind the music.

"[Rage] is a band that casts the nets really wide, and that's part of the strength of the band," Morello says. "People are drawn to it by the music, the aggression, the rockingness of it, and then they’re exposed to different ideas. Paul Ryan was a jackass before he listened to it, came out a jackass at the end, so he missed a lot of it."

The guitarist, who has recently been performing under his Nightwatchman persona at events related to the Occupy Wall Street movement, also expresses his dissatisfaction with our current president, despite having fiercely backed Obama in the 2008 election. "I drank a little bit of the Kool-Aid initially," Morello says of the hype that surrounded Obama.

"It looked different than any other president, sounded different than any other president and then he acted the same as all the other presidents," continues Morello. "If you have war crimes on your record, and you still continue to suck at the corporate teat like he does -- my hopes were higher."
