A pledge to keep smartphones out of the hands of younger kids is gaining national attention after thousands of parents have signed up to take it.

The "Wait Until 8th" online pledge asks parents to hold off on getting their kids smartphones until the kids are in 8th grade.

It was started by a Texas mom after she noticed lots of students at her kid's elementary school already had smartphones.

Currently, the online pledge has 20,000 signatures in all 50 states.

Parents can sign the pledge here, but it will not go into effect until at least 10 families from your child's grade and school make the pledge too. The reason is that there will be less pressure on one child to have a smartphone and that they will know other kids in their grade won't have one, either.
