There is a new bill being signed into law for bus drivers soon and if you're anything like me, you're wondering how it wasn't already a law.

The new law would require all school bus drivers to submit to random drug and alcohol testing.

Why not?  I wouldn't want my kids in a bus with someone who has been drinking.  Would you?

Transporting that many children at one time is a huge responsibility.  To think that a bus driver would be under the influence of anything before getting behind the wheel is insane.

The bill was signed on Friday by Governor Cuomo and will go into effect in 120 days.

It is more strict than the current regulations with regard to time limitations of alcohol consumption.  According to WIVB, the previous law prohibited driving a bus less than 6 hours after consuming alcohol.  The new bill will push that time back even further and prohibit a driver from getting behind the wheel 8 hours after consuming alcohol.

What do you think?  Is it fair to set this standard for bus drivers?
