Stephen Colbert of 'The Colbert Report' was estatic when he learned that John Lennon may have been a closet Republican. According to a man who worked for Lennon, the musician once said he was considering voting for Ronald Reagan over Jimmy Carter. This was all the evidence Colbert needed.

Stephen Colbert cited a recent Washington Times editorial by Ted Nugent on Monday’s episode of ‘The Colbert Report.’ In the editorial, the rocker described the youth of today as “terminally stoned on apathy.” At first, Colbert seemed skeptical of Nugent’s choice of medium for the editorial, doubting whether the ailing newspaper industry could actually “jolt our youth awake.”
