“Do you really think that people want to see Michael Scott again?” This was the question Steve Carell posed when asked if he’ll be making a guest appearance on ‘The Office.’ And Carell thinks the answer is no.

The question of Carell dropping by the long-running NBC comedy came up while the actor was doing an interview in support of disaster comedy flick, ‘Seeking a Friend for the End of the World,’ in which he stars opposite Keira Knightley. Carell, who left ‘The Office’ back in season seven, said a return to the series “hasn’t been discussed” and thinks Michael Scott’s life post-Dunder Mifflin, is better left to the imagination.

“Do you really think that people want to see Michael Scott again?” said Carell in an interview with the L.A. Times. “I think the people who say they want to see Michael Scott reappear would be ultimately slightly disappointed. I think you always wish for something that you don’t sincerely want to come true. And I think in a way it’s better to imagine where Michael and Holly are at this point than actually see it.”

Now heading into it’s ninth season, some TV pundits think it’s about time ‘The Office’ close up shop altogether. While its ratings have been on the decline, ‘The Office’ remains one of the highest rated shows for the struggling NBC. And though a return would probably spike those numbers a bit, it seems Steve Carell is out of the paper business for good.
