Governor Cuomo has issued a ban on tractor trailers and buses from traveling on the Thruway and many state highways this weekend as a winter storm brings heavy snow and cold to the region.  The ban will be in effect from 3 pm Saturday and for the duration of the storm.

The governor's office issued a statement citing safety concerns; "We are implementing this ban on tractor trailers and buses so our plow operators, fire, law enforcement and emergency personnel can keep roads clean and respond to emergencies as quickly as possible."

The ban prohibits tractor trailers and buses from traveling on the entire length of the Thruway from the Pennsylvania state line to New York City.  Additionally, here in Western New York the ban includes;

  • The entire length of the I-190
  • The entire length of the I-290
  • The expressway portion of Route 219
  • The expressway portion of Route 400
  • The entire length of Route 86/Route 17
  • Route 5 from the Skyway to Milestrip Road

And to the east of us, I-390, I-490 and I 590 in the Rochester area and the entire length of I-81 will be closed to trucks and buses.
