‘SNL’ Preview: Drake Is the Saddest Boy in All of Canada

SNL‘ will make its 2014 debut this coming weekend with rapper Drake pulling double duty as both host and musical guest, but will cast members new and old pull focus from the Canadian performer? Find out in the first official promos from Drake’s 2014 ‘SNL’ premiere!

Though no stranger to ‘SNL’ himself, Drake will make his first-time hosting appearance on the January 18 installment. The new promos split time between Bobby Moynihan and Jay Pharoah, culminating in a lengthy bit that sees both ‘SNL’ cast members attempting to convince the rapper they make beats in the recording studio.

Apart form Drake’s hosting debut on the ‘SNL’ stage, no doubt viewers will tune in for the long-running sketch comedy’s first black female cast member since Maya Rudolph, the newly hired Sasheer Zamata. NBC’s efforts to improve diversity may also be felt in the writing of the show’s newly hired black female comediennes, LaKendra Tookes and Leslie Jones.

Subsequent weeks will see the likes of ‘Wolf of Wall Street‘ star Jonah Hill and (potentially) returning favorite Melissa McCarthy. But in the meantime, check out Drake’s ‘SNL’ promos above, and give us your predictions in the comments!
