With the summer here and the family spending more time outdoors, there is a new warning from officials in Niagara County.

A case of rabies has been confirmed in Lockport. According to a story from Metro Source News:

The health department says a bat found in a Lockport home tested positive. Officials say rabies season usually intensifies as the weather warms up, and they're asking people to take precautions. Anyone who finds a bat or potentially infected animal is asked to call the health department.

Rabies can be carried by many types of wildlife and it is best to keep a distance from them. watch for strange behavior and contact officials before taking any action to remove them from your backyard. Be sure to explain to young children that selfies with wildlife is also not a good idea.
