'Remote learning' and 'in-class learning' are two of the learning models identified by WNY superintendents along with a third option which incorporates both learning models, according to WGRZ. 700 NY School Districts have to come up with re-opening plans, and those will be based on the re-opening guidelines expected to be rolled out this week.

According to WGRZ, Niagara Falls City School District Superintendent Mark Laurriehad this to say:

"This week coming up, we're going to get more information on the requirements for opening schools in September"

Laurrie and Olean City School District Superintendent Rick Moore added this about the learning options for students coming back to school:

"I think all of the three options have to be on the table, and I think it really should be a regional approach...our goal would be to bring kids back, obviously, if that's the directive and we are allowed to do that.  So we have started to plan remote, onsite learning and a hybrid approach.

The WGRZ article states that Governor Andrew Cuomo will have a re-opening decision by August 7th after all schools have submitted their re-opening plans by the July 31 deadline.

WNY schools have been closed since the middle of March, and teachers and parents from all levels of education were forced to adapt to remote learning. With Western New York now seeing some of the lowest coronavirus case totals since March, the idea is to get kids back into classrooms in as safe a manner as possible.
