There is currently a bill in the New York State Assablemy that if passed could lower the legal amount of alcohol that could be in your blood while driving.

Currently, the BAC is .08, but under the new law proposed by Assemblyman Felix Ortiz, the legal blood alcohol level threshold for drinking and driving, would be reduced to .05.

According to a recent study a .05 percent blood alcohol concentration, rather than .08, could save thousands of lives.

The bill has been referred to the transportation committee and is not scheduled for a vote yet.
