New Evidence Says COVID-19 Can Cause Serious Illness in Children

According to WIVB, there is new evidence that suggests that COVID-19 can lead to serious illness in young children.

Up until now it was widely believed that COVID-19 had little to no effect on young children, but several new cases have experts investigating whether or not the COVID-19 virus is to blame for a slew of cases of severe illness.

Per the CDC:

Kawasaki disease (KD), also known as Kawasaki syndrome, is an acute febrile illness of unknown cause that primarily affects children younger than 5 years of age...Clinical signs include fever, rash, swelling of the hands and feet, irritation and redness of the whites of the eyes, swollen lymph glands in the neck, and irritation and inflammation of the mouth, lips, and throat.

While the investigation is just beginning to develop, Cuomo urged parents to remain vigilant. He laid out a list of symptoms that all parents should monitor their children for, and seek medical attention if they see them.
