You knew it was bound to happen at some point...McDonald's testing a new plant-based burger in its stores; after Burger King saw success with The Impossible Whopper (meatless burger) earlier this year.

McDonald's has partnered with Beyond Meat for its new meatless burger, the "PLT". For those wondering, it stands for plant, lettuce, tomato.

Starting on today, McDonald's will test the burger at 28 locations in Ontario, according to Delish.

"McDonald’s has a proud legacy of fun, delicious and craveable food—and now, we’re extending that to a test of a juicy, plant-based burger," VP of global menu strategy Ann Wahlgren said in a statement. "We’ve been working on our recipe and now we’re ready to hear feedback from our customers."

"During this test, we’re excited to hear what customers love about the P.L.T. to help our global markets better understand what’s best for their customers," Wahlgren continued. "This test allows us to learn more about real-world implications of serving the P.L.T., including customer demand and impact on restaurant operations."

No word on when the PLT will make its way in the U.S. but it sounds like that will happen, eventually.
