Lots Of People Hate Social Distancing – Then There Are The Rest Of Us
How many times have you heard someone say, "I can't wait until I can hug all of you!" Now, how does that make you feel? If it makes you cringe, you're not alone.
Admittedly, social distancing is hard for a lot of people. When you can't be around someone with chronic illness, your grandkids or your elderly parents, it's incredibly sad. And yes, it's hard for people to do.
But then there are a few people who hope that life won't go back to normal. I mean, they want to go back to work. They want to see friends. They just don't necessarily have to be that close to them.
I'll say it...hugging doesn't make everyone feel good. For some people, it's an anxious moment. In some instances it starts with the question, "are we going in for the hug here? Or is this more of a handshake moment?" Then if you go for the hug you wonder, "Am I hugging too tight? When is this going to end." You just get uncomfortable with them in your personal space.
That's a long way of saying - not everyone is a hugger. Not everyone is comfortable with being touchy feely. Some of us are just fine keeping people at a distance.
If this is you, that's ok. You're not alone. A recent survey says that quite a few people are just fine with social distancing. As a matter of fact, almost half of the people who took the survey (48%) said that they were more comfortable with the distance between people.
And it's not just social distancing. There are some other things that people don't miss...
- Working in an office (36%)
- Eating out in restaurants (29%)
- Going to the bank (27%)
- Working out at a gym or studio (26%)
- Going to a place of worship (24%)
So don't feel bad if you're ok with how things are right now. You aren't alone.
