The first “Hangover” was an instant hit. Now the boys are back for another wild round, this time in Bangkok. “Hangover 2” debuts in movie theatres this weekend, but will it live up to all the hype? Filmmakers take a risk with sequels. You’ve heard the saying, “Quit while you’re ahead.”  I’ve seen sequels where it’s obvious they were trying way too hard to be funny, original and recreate the magic. On the other hand, there have been sequels that were just as good, if not better than the original bringing in big bucks, iconic one-liners and storylines we will never forget. Here are five of some of the most successful and memorable movie sequels.

The Godfather II

It’s not an easy job being the boss of a notorious crime family. But Michael Corleone, played by Al Pacino, was determined to keep his empire, while keeping his loved ones alive. In the end, he got even with all his enemies..usually through a hail of gunfire.

The Empire Strikes Back

You can’t talk about great sequels without mentioning “The Empire Strikes Back.” From the 70s to today’s generation, there’s something about the series that has little boys wanting to be Luke Skywalker. Each installment reveals a key component to the story and has a way of keeping the viewer looking forward to the next movie.

Rocky II

I’m a huge Rocky Balboa fan. I never get tired of watching the Italian Stallion in the ring. My dad and I have seen “Rocky II” so many times, we have the movie just about memorized. One of my favorite scenes is when dozens of kids run with Rocky down the streets of Philadelphia to the theme music, and of course at the end when he holds up his belt and screams, “Yo, Adrianne. I did it!” Yes Rocky, you did it.

Terminator 2: Judgment Day

Arnold Schwarzenegger’s personal life may be in ruins at the moment, but as far as movies go, he will always be known as the Terminator. In the original action movie, his assignment was to kill Sarah Connor but returns in “Terminator 2: Judgment Day” as the good guy to protect her son, John. The special effects out do the original, and Linda Hamilton’s character proves women can kick some butt. And who can forget classic one-liners like, “I’ll be back,” and “Hasta la visita, baby.”

Toy Story 2

“Toy Story” was the first animated movie of its kind, and some of Hollywood’s biggest names like Tom Hanks and Tim Allen showed how a movie about talking toys is more than just child’s play. Kids love the movie for the funny talking toys, adults love it because the movie brings them back to their childhood. “Toy Story 2” delivers laughs, a great storyline and the true meaning of friendship.
