Now that August is already here, it's only right to start your holiday shopping...okay maybe that's a bit much, we still have plenty of summer left. However, many Buffalo folks are already thinking turkey, as in the YMCA Turkey Trot!

The well know 8k race, according to WKBW, has officially opened their registration for this year's upcoming race. The Turkey Trot, ran and organized by the YMCA Buffalo Niagara, takes place on Thanksgiving morning on Delaware ave in downtown Buffalo.

The race has attracted over 14,000 runners and walkers and has become the oldest consecutively run footrace in North America, pretty cool! What's even cooler is that an incredible $1.2 million was raised just last year by participants which goes to help families in need all throughout WNY.

I remember being at a couple races and enjoying all the funny and creative costumes participants and teams come up with. It's a great family event all for a great cause. For more information, contact the Turkey Trot by calling (716) 565-6000 or get the details here.
