Instead Of A ‘WALK OUT’, The Principal Gave Every Student These…Good Idea?
Many high schools saw walk outs in Western New York including, West Seneca, Buffalo, Batavia, Niagara Falls, Hamburg and Clarence. The students who participated walked out of school around 10 AM and lasted 17 minutes to commemorate the 17 kids who lost their lives in the violent gun shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. It was the deadliest school shooting since 2012.
Though, a lot of people thought all of the kids should stay in school, here is maybe a different approach those who disapproved, would like.
Here's what one teacher in Michigan posted about their school. It encourages students to walk up to other kid's lockers and show signs of positivty and support to people outside of their group of friends.
What do you think?
Today our students participated in a Walk Up instead of a Walk Out. They were each given 17 sticky notes to symbolize the 17 lives lost in Florida and encouraged to leave 14 notes for students and 3 for adults that would brighten their day. As I walked the halls I was overcome with pride for these kids. Not a single locker was untouched and they took special care to ensure that everyone from admin to the tech guy and custodian received some love
