It's not often a local story like this makes national news but that's exactly what a five-year-old pit bull mix named Bonita did.

According to ABC News, the happy Bonita finally found her forever home after spending 500 days at the Niagara County SPCA.

The man who adopted her is local Ray Kinz.

Kimberly Larussa, event coordinator at the Niagara County SPCA, says that Bonita will be missed by the staff after spending well over a year being looked after.

"I know we are all going to miss her like crazy," said Larussa.

I have a three-year-old pit bull/beagle mix at home named Odessa and I know what a rewarding feeling this is. For a dog to be at a shelter that long is crazy but this had a happy ending for all involved!
