Buffalo Sabres Reveal New Retro Jersey

Last week the team got fans excited for the return of older Sabres imagery.

Adidas announced "Retro Rewind" jerseys for all NHL teams, but obviously the Buffalo Sabres one has us excited.

Featuring the traditional blue & gold color scheme, the "goathead" and "butter knives" emblems from the red & black era make a comeback.

Just me, or does the goathead look spectacular in blue and gold?

Based on the teaser video above, we'll get the goathead on the sleeves of the new jersey. The butter knives get center ice, I mean center stage, on the front of the sweaters.

The Sabres retired that alternate and their regular black, white and red buffalo head jerseys following the 2005-06 season, when they switched their main colors back to blue and gold and unveiled a new logo commonly referred to as “the slug.”

NBC Sports reports the NHL says the jerseys will be worn “multiple” times during the 2020-21 season “with special head-to-head matchups featuring exciting and renewed rivalries – both old and new – the league will announce at a later date.”

The NHL says: The adidas Reverse Retro program creates a new formula to showcase the passion of the fans. The overarching design theme during adidas’ two-year-long process was to mine each team’s jersey archive and team colors, remixing them to create something new and never seen before. With that in mind, Adidas created uniquely distinct and desirable jerseys that incorporated inverted team colors.
