Goaltender Robin Lehner deserved a better fate.  He faced 51 shots and made some incredible saves, but the Chicago Blackhawks scored the winning goal with just 5 seconds left in overtime and beat the Buffalo Sabres 3-2.

The Sabres were just 3 and a half minutes away from winning in regulation and were on the power play, but it was the Blackhawks who scored a shorthanded goal to tie the game 2-2.  It's the 8th shorthanded goal the Sabres have given up this season.  But it forced overtime where the Blackhawks won it to keep Buffalo winless in Chicago for nearly 11 years.

Jack Eichel had a golden chance to win the game in overtime when he was awarded a  penalty shot after he was pulled down from behind.  But Chicago goaltender Cory Crawford stopped Eichel's weak attempt.

The victory keeps Crawford undefeated against the Sabres in nine career games.  But this was a game the Sabres could have had.  The Sabres went into a defensive shell in the third period, just trying to clear their own zone, but the Blackhawks kept coming at them at it cost the Sabres the game.

The Blackhawks outshot the Sabres a whopping 51-28 to end a five-game losing streak.  The Sabres complete their road trip Sunday night in St. Louis.
