Many here in Buffalo remember Lt. Craig Lehner of the Buffalo Police Department K-9 Unit. Lt. Lehner passed away on the job during a dive training exercise this month two years ago, and the blue pumpkins that went on sale back then in his honor to benefit the BPD K-9 Unit are returning for the third year.

According to WIVB, Allison Milligan, founder of the blue pumpkin fundraiser, will be selling the blue pumpkins from her home next weekend to benefit the BPD K-9 Unit.

“We’re expecting about 800 pumpkins to go this year,” Allison Milligan said, the founder of the fundraiser.

“Craig was a close friend of my husband’s and they served in the military together,” she said.

The pumpkins will be spray-painted blue by Milligan and this will be the third annual sale of the pumpkins.

The pumpkins will be on sale from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, October 12th, with a Chinese auction, with a food and craft vendor as well. The sale will also begin at 9 a.m. on Sunday, October 13th.

If you're looking to buy a pumpkin towards the cause, you can at 118 W. Woodside Avenue, Buffalo, NY.
