Just when you thought we were going to have a "down south" winter, meteorologists are saying a big winter storm could hit Buffalo this weekend!

According to Patrick Hammer with Channel 2, WGRZ, we ould see some significant show this weekend here in Buffalo and WNY!

An impulse in the jet stream will cross into the United States Thursday and strengthen once it moves east of the Rockies on Friday. Southerly winds will provide a lot of moisture from the Gulf of Mexico and there will be a fresh supply of cold air dropping into the Northeast from Canada at the end of the week. The clash of the warm and cold air masses will allow the low to strengthen as it moves through the Mid-Atlantic. This strengthening increases the wind threat for the storm Saturday night into Sunday.

They aren't calling out numbers of snow levels just yet, but they are putting the winter weather warning out there. We can possibly expect heavy snow for long stretches of time this weekend. Saturday afternoon is when it's expected to pick up, getting heavier into the evening and lasting through Sunday night. The Southtowns will likely be in for "lake effect" snow as well.
