New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is looking for some new designs for the Skyway in Downtown Buffalo.

The Governor made the announcement while he was in Cheektowaga earlier this week. The state is now offering $100,000 for alternatives to the Skyway.

Cuomo said the Skyway is outdated and not the best way to connect the city to the Southtowns.

Buffalo's Mayor Bryan Brown was on board with finding an alternative to the skyway. In a press release, he stated he is excited about the competition.

"The Governor's idea for a design competition is a very creative approach to reimagine what this roadway could be to improve transportation access and stimulate additional economic development."

The competition to find a replacement is set to happen later this year so the State wants redesign ideas ASAP.
