The theme for the 2018 National EMS Week is "Stronger Together." There are not enough words to show our gratitude to the hard working men and women who dedicate their lives to saving others. However, there are a few lessons we can learn this week!

National Emergency Medical Services Week brings together local communities and medical personnel to publicize safety and honor the dedication of those who provide the day-to-day lifesaving services of medicine's "front line." This information can be used throughout the year for public education and safety programs.

I received an email from a listener who makes a few great points. First, we should all be very thankful for those who take the time to train, dedicate and prepare themselves to assist others during an emergency. There are countless hours and classes that are required to be an EMS responder.

Another lesson we can take away from Sharon's email to me regarding those on an ambulance crew:

(A big misconception) is being called an ambulance driver and people thinking that they do not have medical skills and training. Let’s be honest without the EMS responders some people would not be here today, not just from being hurt, but women in labor, my husband has delivered at least 15 babies in his 19 year career!

Congrats to all of you that are EMS personnel this week and thank you so much for all you do to save lives!
