It's time to start looking up at night! If you are going camping or are going to be out after dark, there is an impressive light show that is about to begin.

According to Metro Source News:

The Perseid [[ PUR-see-id ]] meteor shower begins today.  Scientists say Earth will pass through the path of Comet Swift-Tuttle from July 17th to August 24th, with the shower's peak set to happen on August 12th.

This is great news for those of us who work super early. When we come in to the station at 415 a.m., it's not unusual for us to see the show streaking across the sky.

In-The-Sky.org says that in Buffalo around August 13th,

From Buffalo (click to change), the radiant of the shower will appear 28° above your north-eastern horizon at midnight. This means you are likely to see only around 38 meteors per hour, since the radiant will be low in the sky, reducing the chance of seeing meteors.
