The Western New York Flash announced today that they will be entering the United Women’s Soccer league. It was announced earlier this year that the NWSL WNY Flash would be leaving the area after being sold to Stephen Malik who relocated the team North Carolina renamed them the NC Courage.

The United Women’s Soccer was league developed in 2015 to “help fill the gap in the development of female soccer players between the collegiate game and the professional & international game,” according to a press release from the Flash. The team will be comprised mostly of college players returning to the area for the summer. The Flash will be one of twenty teams around the country in the league with some teams yet to be announced.

The Flash have a dominating history in all of their past leagues they’ve been involved with in past years. They’ve won titles in the last four leagues they’ve been a part of including the NWSL championship they won right before being sold in 2016. Ticket sales probably factored into the sale of the team as well as moving their operations to Sahlen’s Sports Park in Elma while keeping their matches in Rochester. It was hard to keep attendance up even though on paper they were one of WNY bests sports teams for the past decade.

The press release stated that all games would be played in Buffalo which one would assume they would be held at Sahlen’s Sport Park. The season begins in May and runs through late July. If you know someone that might be interested in playing for the WNY Flash they should email as soon as possible.
