Even if you tried really, really, really hard, I don't think you could guess where the above photo corresponds to in present-day Buffalo.

Give up? You're looking at what used to be the corner of Delaware Avenue and Auburn Avenue.

Crazy, right?

According to the photo's details on Wikipedia -- and the Buffalo Express' "Views of Old-Time Buffalo" booklet it originally came from, published in 1916 -- that little brick building is the Jubilee Water Works Spring House, which was built in 1830. Jubilee Water Works used miles of wooden pipes to carry water from the spring house to Buffalo and Black Rock.

In the 1890s, the city abandoned the Water Works' system for a reservoir system that pulled water from Lake Erie. Wikipedia says that the water from the spring house now flows into a pond in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
