Another weekend, and another chance to explore some amazing Jacktivities around Western New York!

This weekend I wanted to learn about something different in WNY. I know there are some amazing beaches, amusement parks and carnivals happening around town, but I wanted to find out about an activity many don't know about. I decided to look more into the Lockport Cave and Underground Boat Ride.

I had heard commercials on it and saw deals, but I didn't know much about it. After doing my research, I am dying to check it out! This place has been registered as a historic place from 1975. You'll start off the tour right at the ticket office and venture through on a 70-minute tour. I suggest wearing comfortable walking shoes for this one since most of the tour is walking. Yes, that means you don't need your stilettos.

The first part of the tour is walking through the ruins from an earlier industrial age. You'll walk through blasted-out solid rock, view flowstone and check out artifacts left behind by the men who built the tunnel in the early days of the Erie Canal. The second half of the tour is the Underground Boat Ride. This one is seriously cool. You'll climb in and take a ride on America’s longest underground boat ride. The boats are going to glide through the water illuminated only by a small, sporadically placed electric lights. It’s really an experience you are going to want to have!

Check out more on their website. If you’re the ghost hunter type too, make sure you check back on their website later because they are going to be having a ghost hunt there.

Since this week is the Fourth of July, get a start on celebrating our independence in East Aurora. Tomorrow at Spring Garden Park in East Aurora is their Independence Day Celebration from noon until 8 p.m. This celebration combines my favorite things – freedom and German food. They will be serving up some amazing traditional German food, beverages and more. There’s also live music by the Schnickelfritzers from 3 to 8.

Finally, I know Fourth of July is this week, so don’t be left out on fireworks! Grab a blanket and check out a few places around town that have amazing firework displays. Be safe and have a wonderful Fourth of July!
