Washington Capitals On the Verge of Stanley Cup Championship

The Washington Capitals need to win just one more game to hoist the Stanley Cup and they'll have three opportunities to do it after a dominant 6-2 victory over the Las Vegas Golden Knights on Monday night. 

The Capitals scored three times in the first period and cruised to their third straight win over the Knights to take a commanding 3 games to 1 lead in the Stanley Cup final.  T.J. Oshie had a goal and two assists.  Evgeny Kuznetsov had four assists.  Goaltender Brayden Holtby stopped 28 shots.

The Knights came out with a determined effort at the start of the game, but had some tough luck around the net with shots hitting the goalposts or shots going wide.  James Neal had a wide open during a power play early in the first period but he hit the far goalpost.  Holtby didn't have a chance on the shot and he thought it went in and he was amazed it didn't.  That was an indication of how it was going to go for the Knights.

In NHL history teams that take a 3-1 lead in the Stanley Cup finals have won the Cup 32 of 33 times.  The Knights will need to have a lot of things go their way to overcome that huge hurdle.

Game 5 is Thursday night in Vegas.
