In chilling music news from outside the world of classic rock, Tim Lambesis, singer for the popular metal band As I Lay Dying, pleaded guilty today to solicitation of murder for his role in a plot to kill his estranged wife, Meggan Lambesis.

According to Lambgoat, as part of this plea deal, Lambesis faces up to nine years in prison, and will be fined $10,000. His sentencing is scheduled for May 2. The singer was arrested last year for allegedly attempting to hire a hitman to kill Meggan. Luckily for her, the "hitman" was actually an undercover police officer.

According to testimony from that officer, Lambesis agreed to pay $20,000 to have his wife killed, reportedly partially because he was upset that she was pressuring him to stay on the road to earn money instead of working as a record producer closer to home. "During our conversation he told me that he had picked out three dates that were good dates for him, for me to kill his wife. Those were the dates that he would have his children and therefore, he would not be a suspect in the case.”

As I Lay Dying formed in San Diego, Calif. in the early-'00s. They have released six studio albums since that time, the most recent being 2012's 'Awakened.' The group has not offered an official statement regarding this verdict as of the publishing of this story.
