Babies everywhere! The Buffalo Zoo announced the name of the new reindeer over the weekend! Like most animals at the zoo, they let the public hep decide the name of the new Scandinavian Reindeer! The possible names were Thor, Yukon Pulsar and Ma and the zoo held voting from May 10th -14th!

So what name won out? Thor! What a cute name!

Thor, a Scandinavian Reindeer, was born April 18th at The Buffalo Zoo to his parents Solara (mom) and Apollo (dad). This is the first baby for both parents however, The Buffalo Zoo has had over 100 reindeer births since 1970!  The name Thor obviously follows the mythology theme like his father's name. Thor, according to Wikipedia, "is a hammer-wielding god associated with thunder, lightning, storms, oak trees, strength, the protection of mankind, and also hallowing and fertility."

According to The Buffalo Zoo,

"Unlike other deer species, baby Scandinavian reindeer don’t have spots. Newborns are able to stand just one hour after birth, and follow their mother at around five to seven hours old."

Congratulations to The Buffalo Zoo! Head over and meet Thor in person!
