This one student would do everything in her power to fail school. She rarley showed up, never participated and rarely did any work. But, her teacher still passed her to graduate.

Is this a good reason why she did it, though?

If we don’t meet our academic goals, we are deemed failures as teachers. There is a tremendous amount of pressure on us as teachers.I thought it was in her best interest and the school’s best interest to pass her.”

She said she did it because of the tremendous pressure from the administration. Is passing the student teaching her a good work ethic? Is it teaching her that she can do very little with no work and still accomplish something?

The student did all of this on purpose. According to the NY Post, the student,

I don’t like receiving what I would call a handout, but that’s what happened. New York City gave me a diploma I didn’t deserve", the student acknowledged that she pushed Mejia through appeared to confirm the worst fears about the city’s public schools — that even unsatisfactory students are routinely handed diplomas.
