Winter has for the most part not showed up this year and with every passing day we get closer to spring and warmer temperatures. The lake has not even come close to freezing over which leads me to ask the question; Will Western New York get through winter without a major snow event or is the lake a ticking time bomb waiting to dump feet of snow on us?
It's been 35 years since Western New York was hit by one of the worst snow storms in recorded history. When ever you mention "The Blizzard of 77" to a Western New Yorker who lived through it, you can be sure they have a personal story to tell. I was 10 years old at the time and all I knew was that I had a snow day. Little did I know there were people stranded in their cars on impassable roads, some of those cars ended up being buried. It wasn't until days later that the drivers were found by plows trying to clear snow from the roads.
November 11, 2011 Can you believe it snowed this morning? I know a lot of you are thinking that winter is going to be here soon and it’s going to be cold, icy driving conditions, shoveling the driveway every day, and there’s nothing fun to do outside. If you are one of those people that don’t like winter and want it to go by fast, I have a solution for you. Go to a ski resort and try either skiing or snowboarding.

If you haven’t noticed, it’s snowing. Maybe you lost contact with the real world for the last three or four days because everyone has been talking about the big storm!
On this day back in 1977. a wall of black clouds descended upon Western New York and heavy snow and winds as high as 75 mph crashed through the region in what would come to be known as The Blizzard of 77

Buffalo is the kind of city that can take a pounding and you can still find a way to have fun with it! And every year we laugh at the rest of the country as they cringe at the 2 inches of snow they can't deal with
So you were cold, tired and sick of being stuck on the Thruway all night. So you abandoned your car. The Thruway Authority had it moved, but where did it go? Now you have a way to find it.
Looks like the snow is shifting, I guess I will get stuck shoveling snow tonight :(
