Intuit QuickBooks have paired the rambunctious playtime of little girls with the raucous sounds of a classic Slade song in their new ad campaign for 'Goldie Blox,' which you may have seen and heard in a high-profile Super Bowl commercial last night. If you missed it, you can watch it above.
Slade's seasonal classic 'Merry Xmas Everybody' has been a perennial favorite in England since its release in December of 1973. Believe it or not, after four decades, the song stands to make an estimated £800,000 in royalties this year. That's a little over $1.3 million in U.S. dollars!
Slade were just about at the peak of their powers in the summer of 1973, riding high with seven consecutive Top 10 singles in the U.K. The latest, 'Skweeze Me, Pleeze Me,' shot straight to No. 1. When the band hit the road, with openers the Sensational Alex Harvey Band, demand for tickets was so high, they scheduled two nights at the legendary Earls Court in London.
