Heavy metal overlords Black Sabbath began the second chapter of their storied career in April 1980, when they hit the road in Europe and U.K. for their first shows with Ozzy Osbourne’s replacement, Ronnie James Dio.
Earlier this month over 80 guitars from rockers like Eddie Van Halen and Slash were auctioned off to raise money for cancer reseach. The Dio Cancer Fund -- a charity that honors the late Ronnie James Dio -- added $100K to an already impressive total to give to the TJ Martell Foundation. Since 2010 wife Wendy Dio has overseen the donation of over $300K.
The widow of late Dio, Black Sabbath and Heaven and Hell vocalist Ronnie James Dio has remarried. Wendy Dio, who also served as Dio's manager for many years, wed Omar Gimenez in a private ceremony this past Sunday (Sept. 9) in Montecito, California.
Through the years, I have touted a theory that all great hard rock can be traced back to legendary metal vocalist Ronnie James Dio. I called it my "Wheel of Dio." As a proud fan of RJD, I gave him all the credit, but in reality, the wheel centers around two bands: Black Sabbath and Deep Purple.
