The signing leaves the Sabres about $5 million under the cap, so a move for Richards is unlikely unless the team sheds some salary. One could argue that the Sabres overpaid for the forward who's only scored 30 goals in the NHL and the player doesn't address the Sabres biggest need, a number one center. Leino is naturally a left winger.

Another sign that it's a new era for the Buffalo Sabres, and free agent players like what they see.
