In 1975, Heart opened the first of two shows for Rod Stewart in front of a sold-out crowd, which unbeknownst to Ann and Nancy Wilson, had rabidly been anticipating their arrival onstage, thanks to early airplay of their ‘Dreamboat Annie’ album that had been released in Canada earlier that year (prior to being released in the U.S. the following year). Only four days before that, they had been fired from a dispiriting club engagement and left wondering what their next move would be.

Heart may be the most disrespected band in the world. I hope it’s not because the band is fronted by the Wilson Sisters, two women.

We’ve long known that women don’t get a fair shot in the workplace, earning far less than their male counterparts, but having seen Heart steal the show when they opened for Def Leppard last summer, it’s hard to believe these ladies still don’t sell out major arenas as headliners. Tonight they'll be at Artpark, and it blows my mind that you can get tickets to see one of the most legendary rock bands of all time for just 10 bucks ($5 if you bought them in advance).

The guys in Def Leppard must have monster egos. I don't mean that in a bad way. It just takes a certain amount of swagger to let a band like Heart be your opener, knowing that they could blow you away on any given night. Which Heart did last night at Darien Lake.
