On March 13, 1983, a Sammy Hagar concert from the packed Checkerdome in St. Louis, Mo. was broadcast live over radio stations all across the country, and also shown on MTV. The resulting bootleg is now the crown jewel of many Red Rocker fans' video collections.
Since 1981, MTV has been a taste-maker, influencing teens and tweens in the ways of music, fashion, movies and social awareness. And if you're old enough to remember when MTV actually centered its programming on showing music videos, then you're old enough to feel nostalgia over the wide array of beautiful people who served as VJs over the past thirty-some years.
Time has a strange way of changing perspective. When INXS released 'Kick' in 1987, they became the next big thing. Fresh on the heels of the success of U2's 'Joshua Tree', the Australian band were MTV's "It Boys", blending alternative and new wave sounds with a danceable beat.
My parents didn't let us watch cable. Back in the 80's, that meant spending the night over at my friend Jerry's house. His dad had everything. HBO, Skin-a-max, but we also loved watching the Headbanger's Ball on MTV. I would overdose on MTV, and go home in a toxic music video coma.
August 29, 2011 About a decade ago, MTV stopped playing music videos in favor of more reality-based programming. So why do they still present the video music awards? It's a question we seem to ask ourselves every year after the VMAs, especially when the quality of the performances are on the decline.

July 29, 2011 On August 1st, 1981 MTV (Music Television) played it's first music video The Buggles- "Video Killed the Radio Star.” This was a start of a revolution in the music industry. MTV first started out playing just music videos. This was a great way for new bands to be noticed by the public and become famous.
Earlier this year, MTV announced that ‘Beavis and Butt-Head,’ one of MTV’s flagship shows during the 1990s, would be returning — and fans rejoiced.
Attendees at Comic-Con got a preview of upcoming episodes yesterday, introduced by creator Mike Judge, and it seems the iconic adolescents haven’t aged a bit.. The only difference seems to be the material on which they snark while watching TV — instead of music videos, now it’s tacky reality fare like ‘Jersey Shore.’

Sometimes it makes me feel slightly better to see shows like Jersey Shore take place, say, in another country. Especially since we always look like the idiots with all these outrageous reality shows.
February 22, 2011 Ahhh...finally, with all of the crap that is on TV nowdays, from Jersey Shore to Real Housewives of pretty much anywhere and Teen Moms/Addicts and whatever else is out there, some intellectual programming comes back to the airwaves. Well, intellectual to us anyways. Beavis and Butthead return from a 14 year hiatus this summer,
MTV just released their list of the highest paid stars for 2010 and all I want to know is how did Judge Judy make that list?
