Gun control has always been a major issue of debate in America — right up alongside the more recently heated topics of abortion, same-sex marriage and health care — but the tragic shooting of 71 people during a Colorado theater’s showing of ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ has given this controversy a brand new spotlight.
James Holmes, the 24-year-old former graduate student suspected of opening fire at a Colorado movie theater’s midnight showing of ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ early Friday, is due in court today for an initial advisement.
This is one of the most chilling stories to come out of the shooting in Colorado. Jessica Ghawi Redfield, a victim of Friday's massacre, narrowly missed last month's shooting in Toronto that killed one person. An eerie feeling came over her that day. She left the Eaton Center with her sushi and poutine minutes before a gunmen opened fire on the crowd just a few feet from where she was sitting minutes before. She wrote about the experience in her last blog, a strange twist of fate and eerie coincidence that forshadowed exactly what we are thinking about her and the victims of this senseless tragedy.
Following the tragic events that occurred in Aurora, Colorado early this morning when a shooter opened fire during a midnight screening of ‘The Dark Knight Rises,’ Warner Bros. has decided to pull the ‘Gangster Squad‘ trailer.
It's easy to understand how movie-goers in Aurora, Colorado were confused when 24 year-old James Holmes entered the midnight screening of Dark Knight Rises and began shooting people. The movie has some intense and violent opening scenes, even at the local opening people were dressed like characters from the trilogy. At least 12 people are dead and 50 injured and unfortunately the incident played out like a scene from the movie. Only Batman wasn't there to stop him.
