The Music is Art Festival began 10 years ago in a parking lot in Allentown and is now the signature event for local artists and musicians.
All day today Jack FM is hooking you up with Goo Goo Dolls tickets to Friday's show at Darien Lake. Listen at the top of the hour every hour until 5 pm for your chance to win. It's hard to believe that 2011 marks the 25th year anniversary for the band, and the creation of Buffalo's biggest superstars. Formed in 1986, it seems like yesterday that they were rockin out at the Continental. Now in their 40's Robbie and Johnny continue thier popularity with a new album and a song on the Transformers soundtrack. Hopefully this timeline will give you a better look at where these memorable years went.
Looking back on the Goo Goo Dolls 4th of July concert in 2004 it seems almost romantic now. Everybody says they were there, but admit it when it rained liked cats and dogs you probably bolted. Sure some people stayed, but they must have had too much to drink. Proving that Buffalo toughness and pride still runs deep, the Goo Goo Dolls continued to play thru power outages, thunder and lightning and lots and lots of rain.
Our favorite hometown band is coming back to Buffalo July 29th at Darien Lake Performing Arts Center. So of coarse Jack wants to give you a chance to check out this show for free. Because let's face it, in this economy, we know you'll pretty much take anything for free.
Jack’s Ticket Thingy came and went without a hitch yesterday. Well, maybe one. Dean, our promotions guy, counted wrong and still has a pair of tickets left to see the Goo Goo Dolls at Darien Lake on July 19
It seems like almost yesterday, I was at The Continental to see the boys play or hanging out with Robbie as he spun his eclectic selections of alternative music (after his radio show) at The Pink on Sunday nights.
And this week a band after our own heats that formed here in Buffalo... Give it up for the Goo Goo Dolls! Thank God John Rzeznik got over his shyness because to not have him belting out those tunes would be a sin!
Goo Goo Dolls front-man, Johnny Reznik recently sat down with Rolling Stone and talked about the early days of the band, when they were managed by Artie Kwitchoff (now with the Town Ballroom and Funtime Presents Entertainment) and the evolution of the band from Punk Rockers at the Continental to "their current album "Something for the Rest of Us". Watch the interview, and see an acoustic performance from the band.
