Chickenfoot and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith seems to have checked out one of Van Halen‘s two Madison Square Garden shows in New York City last week, and as you can see from this photo, he was welcomed with open arms by the Van Halen clan.
OK we now know the No. 1 challenge involved in keeping Van Halen‘s reunion together. Each and every day, David Lee Roth has to resist the urge to make fun of what is apparently Eddie Van Halen’s tiny pomeranian dog, Kody.
On the surface, things are going smoothly for the Van Halen reincarnate. They’ve successfully released ‘A Different Kind of Truth,’ their first new album with David Lee Roth since 1984, and there is nothing to indicate anything will get in the way of their show in Buffalo on March 9 at the First Niagara Center .
The long-silent Edward and Alex Van Halen have finally submitted to an interview in support of their new album ‘A Different Kind of Truth’ (reviewed here), and the correspondent they chose for this honor is none other than the one and only “Diamond” David Lee Roth, their very own lead singer.
Last night in Los Angeles, Van Halen gave critics and industry types even more reason to be optimistic about the upcoming U.S. tour. The band played for over an hour at Henson Studios in Hollywood, including three new cuts from ‘A Different Kind of Truth‘ amongst the greatest hits set list.
Here’s a look at some notable birthdays being celebrated today:
Eddie Van Halen
Age: 57
Occupation: Guitar God
Known For: Being one of the most influential, original, and talented rock guitarists of the 20th century, co-founding the legendary band Van Halen, songs like ‘Runnin’ with the Devil,’ ‘Jump’ and ‘Right Now,’ and a former marriage to lookalike actress Valerie Bertinelli
The last time Van Halen released a studio album with David Lee Roth, it would have seemed awfully strange, to say the least, for a major band to promote its new music by debuting tracks on a TV drama. But times have changed, and as part of the rollout plan for their new album ‘A Different Kind of Truth,’ VH is including clips from two new songs in this week’s episode of ‘CSI,‘ which airs tonight (Jan. 25) on CBS.
The name of ‘Blood and Fire,’ a newly-previewed song from Van Halen‘s ‘A Different Kind of Truth’ album, probably won’t ring familiar to longtime fans of the band. But Alex Van Halen’s beat and Eddie Van Halen’s noodling on the track may take some knowledgeable fans back to the mid-’80s. That’s because the new song — previewed in the video below — is based on an instrumental called ‘Ripley’ from ‘The Wild Life’ movie.
When Van Halen comes to the First Niagara Center on March 9, they'll have some new material to play from thier new CD "A Different Kind of Truth." Reportedly a few lucky people have already gotten to hear the new Van Halen record well ahead of its Feb. 7 street date.
Van Halen will hit the road next month with Kool & The Gang opening selected shows, including the March 9 show at the First Niagara Center and if that seems like an odd choice for an opening act…stay tuned, because the funk doesn’t end there.
Suddenly band class in Los Angeles just got a whole lot cooler. Eddie Van Halen has donated 75 guitars from his personal collection to music programs in the L.A. area. The rocker teamed up with the Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation to provide instruments to schools without enough for students to play.
