There's more to the NHL lockout than players versus owners. The economic impact runs much deeper, and now, a major beer company wants to be compensated. Meanwhile, local businesses, like the Pearl Street Grill, which is usually packed before a home Sabres game, continue to suffer without getting a sniff from the NHL.
Even though the Buffalo Sabres are locked out, Marcus Foligno is having some fun off the ice with his Rochester Americans teammates Kevin Sunder, Matt McKenzie and Mark Pysyk. Watch them break it down "Gangnam Style" in this video. (Foligno is the worst dancer of the bunch, but probably the top scorer.)
Hello again, Twi-hards. Here's another look at what you missed this week. You're welcome.
Sleep through the last week? Got the mid-October blues? Cheer up, Charlie. We're here to help. Here's what you missed.
The Sabres should have opened the season tomorrow night against the Pittsburgh Penguins, but because of the NHL lockout that game and at least the first few weeks of the season are not happening. Missing the sport, Daybreak's Kevin O'Neill did what most of us do, lived vicariously through a video game to see what happened

Apple can sell anything just by putting an "I" in front of it, and KISS can indoctrinate children into their Army with free tickets. Also, just to remind you, the Bills choked in New York, but we have at least another year of watching quality football, which is a good thing since there probably won't be any hockey. Here's another editon of "This Week in Not Quite History...Yet"
This city has so much more to offer sports-wise than two failing teams. Sure, our other sports teams may not be winning championships just yet, but they’re on the upswing and are sure to make you forget “No Goal” and “Wide Right.”
If you're excited to see the Buffalo Sabres new first-round draft picks Mikhail Grigorenko and Zemgus Girgensons, tonight is your night.
After the Supreme Court today voted to uphold Obamacare, CNN got to work reporting the decision, as any good news organization would. The problem is, they got it wrong. But they weren't alone: The Buffalo News reported the decision incorrectly, too. So did Fox News, but, really, what did you expect?
The reporting gaffe spawned a rash of fake CNN headlines on Twitter, which got me thinking: What fake headlines would Buffalonians love to see pop up on the national (or, heck, even local) news?
Three plans have been submitted for development of the Webster Block, the area around the First Niagara Center and Buffalo's Inner Harbor, according to Business First. The City of Buffalo, under the guidance of Mayor Byron Brown and Rep. Brian Higgins, has done a fantastic job with Canalside, redeveloping the area quickly and using plans from the Old Erie Canal terminus to it's benefit. Park benches have been added and already the area is improving with concerts, events and a newly opened restaurant. But for waterfront development to really take hold the area needs an anchor attraction.
