Turn the lights out: The Buffalo Bills have finally given up on Shawne Merriman. The team announced that they were releasing the former Pro Bowl linebacker today (Monday, August 20).

Dear Rich…err, I mean Ralph Wilson Stadium,
I was born in 1991, less than five months after the first of four Buffalo Bills Super Bowl losses. While I didn’t witness “Wide Right,” I still cringe thinking about that moment. Maybe I was doomed to be a Bills curse (or is it loyal fan?) since I was in my mother’s womb. Seriously, I bring nothing but bad luck to this team -- but that’s another story for another day.
This weekend’s cooler temps were a stark reminder of the inevitable, Buffalo: The end of summer is neigh. But it’s not all bad. The arrival of fall has its pluses, too -- football, the best beer of the year and presidential elections -- as illustrated by this week’s Buffalo Tweets of the Week.
Roger Goodell isn't exactly guaranting that the Buffalo Bills will stay in Western New York, even if they negotiate a new lease. Charles Schumer will give a stump speech in front of Ralph Wilson stadium today saying he has a plan to keep the team here long term, but the timing is weird considering Schumer has not taken part in any negotiations between Erie County and the Bills so far. The reality is we could lose the Bills. Are you ready for that contingency?
The Buffalo Bills made a splash in free agency last spring when they signed Mario Williams, so naturally, all eyes were on the defensive end when training camp opened on Friday. Fortunately, he was everything advertised.
But some other Bills are making impressions, too. Some were acquired through the draft, and others came with more experience under their belt, but they all could have a major impact on the 2012 season.
The Buffalo Bills aren't the only NFL team to open training camp today, which means the chase for the Vince Lombardi Trophy is heating up like a brat at a Packers tailgate.
After the Supreme Court today voted to uphold Obamacare, CNN got to work reporting the decision, as any good news organization would. The problem is, they got it wrong. But they weren't alone: The Buffalo News reported the decision incorrectly, too. So did Fox News, but, really, what did you expect?
The reporting gaffe spawned a rash of fake CNN headlines on Twitter, which got me thinking: What fake headlines would Buffalonians love to see pop up on the national (or, heck, even local) news?
Under a new proposal, the Buffalo Bills will be able to serve beer an hour earlier, and its sponsors believe it will cut back on irresponsible drinking. Good luck with that.
The signing of Vince Young will not start a quarterback controversy in Buffalo. Everyone knows that Ryan Fitzpatrick is the starter. But should Fitz get hurt, Vince Young is a good signing for the Bills.
If the Buffalo Bills free agent signing, Alex Tanney is half as impressive on the field as he is in his Youtube video, there may be a huge quarterback controversy in Buffalo and it may usher in a new era of scouting via Youtube.
Buddy Nix says he wants to surround Ryan Fitzpatrick with better players, apparently that includes his back up. The Buffalo Bills have invited former rookie of the year Vince Young to Buffalo for a workout and Young must take this seriously because he bailed from his honeymoon to tryout.
