A Syracuse man is accused of making death threats against a New York Congressman and his family.

Federal prosecutors in the Western District say 28 year old Patrick Angelo is accused of leaving a voice mail message for Congressman John Katko that said if the lawmaker didn’t support Net Neutrality he would “literally find all of you and your progeny and wipe you from the face of the earth.”

Congressman Katko’s office reported to voicemail to the United States Capitol Police, Threat Assessment Section, which began the investigation with the FBI and security around Katko was increased.

Authorities say they traced the telephone number back to Angelo.

Federal prosecutors explain the Western District of New York is handling the case since Congressman Katko formerly served as an Assistant U-S Attorney in the Northern District of New York and that office was recused.

If convicted of criminal interstate communication of a threat and threatening a federal official, Angelo could face up to ten years in prison, a $250,000 fine or both.
