Should the Buffalo Bills Wait Out Ryan Fitzpatrick Another Year to Bring in Johnny Football?
Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel is a human highlight reel. While the 20 year old isn’t eligible to be drafted in the NFL until after next season, it might be in the Buffalo Bills best interest to hold off on replacing Ryan Fitzpatrick and then do everything they can to get possibly the most dynamic quarterback to ever play college football.
He defied the odds as the first freshman to ever win the award and has nothing but upside. There’s no guarantee that his game translates to the pros, but the play of RGIII, Cam Newton, and Colin Kapernick are a pretty good indication of where the NFL is heading. At the very least Johnny Football, is a more talented Tim Tebow.
The mobile QB, zone reads, option plays are all in vogue right now in the NFL and it’s been fun to watch. The Bills should ride out Fitz and do everything they can to improve the team around the quarterback with the intent to give up the future to draft this kid.
Not only does he have the best nickname in football, he used to pretend he was Doug Flutie when he was growing up and wears his number for Texas A&M. Remember, Doug Flutie? People around here seemed to like that guy. He actually played in a playoff game and was just about the only Bills quarterback to do anything for the team since Jim Kelly retired. And Manziel’s stats measure up to Buffalo’s number two with Manziel throwing for 3,419 yards and 24 touchdowns and running for 1,181 yards and 19 more scores. He is the first freshman, and fifth player overall to throw for 3,000 yards and run for 1,000 in a season.
You can bet Bills fans will be watching the Cotton Bowl January 4 to see what this kid is made of and hoping, praying that he comes to Buffalo someday. Yea, it’s a long shot. But wouldn’t you rather wait for a guy like this, than take another chance on a stop gap measure.
